Spesso ho scritto su Moob quanto le serie televisive siano un grande parallelo della società, anche quando i tv show in questione sono ambientati nel futuro o nel passato. Leggendo un interessante articolo sul Blog Survival of the United States , ho fatto delle riflessioni partendo proprio da Spartacus: Blood and Sand e dal prequel Spartacus: Gods of The Arena.
Nell’antica Roma e ancora di più nella provincia di Capua dove viveva il lanista il subdolo Quintilius Batiatus, lo status era importante ed era sorretto da valori come la famiglia, l’onore, il coraggio, l’amicizia, la fratellanza, il rispetto. L’avidità, la cupidigia, la menzogna, il tradimento erano punite in modo esemplare.
Con una sorta di negative approach (si utilizza in pubblicità per comunicare un delle negatività di un prodotto per mettere meglio in evidenza le positività) in Spartacus, l’ingordo Quintilius Batiatus e la sua consorte sono disposti a ogni depravazione e meschineria pur di diventare parte dell’high society romana, allenando gladiatori che, a dispetto del basso livello culturale conservano al contrario quei valori che abbiamo citato. Anche a costo della vita.
Oggi, in un periodo di crisi economica, strutturale e valoriale, dove tutto appare concesso e l’indignazione confina con l’ipocrisia, quella Roma crudele, spietata e sanguinaria diviene quasi un modello se consideriamo la concretezza e la coerenza di alcuni uomini.
Nell’arena ci siamo tutti quanti, e dobbiamo impegnarci e batterci per raggiungere risultati solo qualche anno fa più facili da conseguire. Lo dobbiamo fare con correttezza, perchè mai come in questi giorni la massa è composta da individui, ma se ognuno si muovesse seguendo le regole, tutti andrebbero nella stessa direzione.

Reading this interesting article on the Blog Survival of the United States, starting from Spartacus: Blood and Sand and from prequel Spartacus: Gods of The Arena I did some considerations.
In Ancient Rome and in the Province od Capua where subtle lanista Quintilius Batiatus and his wife were living, social status was very important and it was based on values as family, friendship, brotherhood, honor, respect. Greed, lies, betrayal were punished.
With a negative approach as often used in advertising (show negative aspects of a product to better evaluate the good ones of it) in Spartacus, Quintilius Batiatus is open to every kind of corruption in order to be part of roman high society, and he trains gladiators, which maybe ignorants keep the values mentioned above.
Today, in a time of financial downturn and structural chrisis, where everything seems to be accepted, and indignation is close to hypocrisy, that cruel, ruthless and bloody Rome appeas to be a better role model if we consider the concreteness and consistency of some human being.
We are all in the arena e we have to commit ourselves and fight in order to achieve what just some years ago was easier to achieve. But we have to fight with fairness, because in these days masses are composed by people as individuals, but if we would act following the rules, everybody would go along the same path.
